Con un unico trolley dalle misure consentite per il bagaglio a mano, fedele al motto francese che recita : “Les grands voyageurs ont toujours de très petits baggages” parto da Milano Malpensa con il volo Alitalia AZ604 del 14 agosto2012 diretto a New York JKK Airport.
Dopo le inevitabili e complesse procedure che regolano i voli per gli Stati Uniti, sono piacevolmente sorpresa dall’atmosfera rilassata ed amichevole che regna a bordo dell’aeromobile. Un Boeing 777 di nuovissima generazione settato per il confort dei passeggeri con tre classi di volo.
Un equipaggio molto giovane, guidato da esperti ed efficienti responsabili di volo, mi fa sentire “viziata e coccolata” come immagino siano i passeggeri della classe Magnifica. Il volo scorre piacevolmente, con la possibilità di usufruire di un video on demand che permette la scelta di una ricca alternativa tra film, musica, giochi ecc.
Dopo varie titubanze, opto per l’ultimo film di Verdone con sottotitoli in inglese tanto per
calarmi gradualmente nella lingua e, tra un pasto e uno spuntino, è quasi ora di atterrare. Le nove ore di volo dall’aeroporto di Malpensa a quello del JFK della Grande Mela sono letteralmente volata.
Sfruttando la videocamera è possibile vedere sul proprio monitor la terra che si fa sempre più vicina.
Un saluto con simpatia a chi ha reso questo viaggio così piacevole ed è già ora di mettersi in coda per le procedure di ingresso. Un taxi al volo e via verso Manhattan.
Come sempre, chiedo all’autista di evitare il tunnel e di passare attraverso il Queensboro Bridge. Ogni volta lo skyline che viene incontro è un’emozione sempre nuova. Siamo nella città che non dorme mai e non si deve cedere alla stanchezza : una lunga passeggiata nelle strade di Midtown mi farà riscoprire suoni, odori, luci di quel solito frenetico caleidoscopio
mai uguale ma sempre ugualmente affascinante.

After many hesitations, I opt for the latest film by Verdone with English subtitles for both

As always, ask the driver to avoid the tunnel and to pass through the Queensboro Bridge. Whenever the skyline that meets emotion is always new. We are in the city that never sleeps and you should not give way to fatigue: a long walk in the streets of Midtown I can discover sounds, smells, lights that usually frenetic kaleidoscope
never the same but always equally fascinating.
